Naan Bread

Serves: 2 to (4)
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Rising Time: 3 hours
Baking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
75g (150g) plain flour
¼ tsp (½ tsp) fresh yeast
1 egg
½ (1) yoghurts
½ tbsp ghee or oil
½ tsp brown sugar
1 (2) pinches salt

Ingredients:
220g plain flour
¾ tsp fresh yeast
2 eggs
1½ yoghurts
¾ tbsp ghee or oil
¾ tsp brown sugar
3 pinches salt

MAGIMIX 5200:
Serves: 8
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Rising Time: 3 hours
Baking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:

300g plain flour
1 tsp fresh yeast
2 eggs
2 yoghurts
1 tbsp ghee or oil
1 tsp brown sugar
4 pinches salt

Method (all Magimix Food Processor models):
  1. Combine yoghurts and eggs in bowl with dough hook.
  2. Add ghee (or oil).
  3. Set aside.
  4. Mix flour, sugar yeast and salt in bowl with dough hook.
  5. Add to yoghurt/eggs mix.
  6. Process to form a firm ball of dough.
  7. Put dough in a large bowl.
  8. Cover with damp tea towel.
  9. Leave to rise for 3 hours.
  10. Preheat grill to 210 deg C (gas mark 6/7).
  11. Lightly knead dough.
  12. Divide into equal pieces.
  13. Shape each piece into a ball.
  14. Flatten to a circle about 10mm thick.
  15. Brush both sides with melted butter.
  16. Bake under grill for 5 minutes.
  17. Turn over and bake for a further 5 minutes.
  18. Wrap naans in tea towel to keep hot.
  19. Serve hot.
Naan bread is traditionally served with spicy dishes.

  1. Is 1/2 yogurts, half a cup of yogurt?

  2. 1/2 yoghurt refers to half a pot of yoghurt. I use the standard 120g pots, so half a pot is 60g. Hope this helps :)
